Cumbres & Toltec Railroad

A day on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad could be the most thrilling ride of your lifetime! Watch for elk as the mighty locomotive puffs its way to Windy Point, the highest elevation accessible by rail in North America. Hold your breath as you snake by the almost bottomless Toltec Gorge. Then close your eyes as you plunge through tunnels and over trestles. This is an adventure in time - a journey into the Frontier West.
A trip on the Cumbres & Toltec winds over mountain passes, through deep forests, and along alpine meadows on 64 miles of narrow-gauge track between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado. From its smokestack to its caboose, it's one of the most authentic steam trains in America. Named one of the best railway experiences in the world by the Society of International Rail Travelers, "The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad never fails to impress," as Southern Living magazine puts it.
Ride in a comfortable coach or in Victorian style luxury in a parlor car. Passengers can walk through the train and enjoy the open-air observation car. Tickets include a home-cooked lunch in Osier, Colorado. Next stop: 1880.
Sunday Express trains are perfect for those who want a short trip. It's just three hours long with a picnic lunch and unforgettable scenery. Kids won't want to miss the Cinder Bear Express with the Cumbres & Toltec official mascot.
