River Rafting
A Hidden Gem of the Rocky Mountains: The Poudre River Whitewater Scene. Fort Collins, CO. The very word, whitewater - is an adrenaline rush for some people, and total intimidation for others. The Cache La Poudre River is Colorado's only nationally designated Wild and Scenic River and offers all classes of whitewater, from mild to wild.
Originating in the mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park, the clear waters of the Poudre rush through beautiful forested canyons that are over 2500' deep during its tumultuous journey to the Great Plains. The Poudre is unique in that it offers some of the best Rafting and Kayaking in the state and does so in an uncrowded setting due to restrictions associated with its National Wild & Scenic status. It is also one of the warmest canyons in the state due to its west to east flow (allowing for an abundance of sunshine in the canyon) and its relative low altitude.
Spencer Heights, Big South and the Narrows sections of the river provide hair-raising, class V whitewater that challenges even the most experienced kayakers. The Upper and Lower Mishawaka sections of the river are packed with technical, class III and IV rapids like Three Rock, Mishawaka Falls and Pine View Falls, perfect for intermediate kayakers and for anyone looking for a thrill in a raft. Finally, the Bridges and Filter Plant sections of the river provide class II and III fun. The Poudre River offers more to enthusiasts than just exceptional whitewater rafting and kayaking. The Poudre is home to one of the most diverse and entertaining "whitewater scenes" in Colorado.
Because of rafting's growing popularity, reservations are highly recommended, especially around summer holidays. Whether you have a large or small group, the support and encouragement you will receive from the staff of professional, state certified, whitewater guides is unparalleled and leaves you with a real sense of accomplishment and adventure. With the experience which only time and a great number of river miles allow, we invite you to be our guest & experience the thrill, friendships, and natural beauty which develop on the river.
So be sure to take time to paddle the river in your kayak or call a local whitewater rafting outfitter and enjoy this "gem" of the Rocky Mountains.
