The US Congress has honored Leadville Boom Days as a Local Legacy Event. It is a major celebration of Leadville's mining heritage. The Main Street is closed to automobile traffic for this event. Strutting contests are held - participants doing their best in floozy satin, lace garters and clack fishnet - or leather chaps and gun belts, or top hats and formal attire. Gunfights break out unexpectedly on street corners; showdowns take place in the center of town.
Two days of mining events are featured including "single jack drilling,""double jack drilling," "hand steeling," and "hand mucking competitions." Downtown also features Arts and Crafts booths, food vendors, a parade and other in-town happenings.
Each year the Boom Days celebration takes place the first full weekend in August. Contact the Visitor Center for more information or visit the website at www.leadvilleboomdays.com. Or click on these links below.
