A Suggested Itinerary

Your time in Royal Gorge Country can be as adventurous as you'd like. Ride big rapids - through towering canyon walls or go for a nice hike. You can zip through the Royal Gorge on a helicopter or ride through in a first class train coach. It's all here! On the following pages, we've assembled some ideas of what a typical day in Royal Gorge Country can be like. Some are mild & others are for those seeking a thrill.

DAY ONE - MILD

9:00 a.m.
Spend the morning in downtown Cañon City.
Breakfast: We recommend: Good Thymes Café. Then do some shopping & check out all four museums.

The Community Heritage Pass gets you into all 4 museums:

1. The Dinosaur Depot
2. Museum of Colorado Prisons
3. Royal Gorge Regional museums & History Center
4. Fremont Center for the Arts

Wednesdays,
Visit the farmers market.

1:00 p.m.
Lunch & fun at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park

5:00 p.m.
Check into a Campground, Hotel or Bed & Breakfast

6:00 p.m. Dinner:
We recommend: Wild West Steak House or Wing Dingers

Evening:
Family: Bowling at Cañon City Lanes.
Family: On Wednesdays at 7p.m. check out music in Pioneer Park in Florence.

DAY TWO - SUPER ADVENTURE

7:30 a.m. BREAKFAST:
We recommend: 16th Street Café or Coyote's Coffee Den

9:00 a.m.
Check in time for a full day rafting trip (advance reservations recommended).
Full day trips include lunch on the Arkansas. After you pull out, view photos of your raft trip. Dry off, throw on a ball cap then head to

Horse Back Riding or A helicopter ride into the Royal Gorge

7:00 p.m.
Check into Hotel, Campground or Bed & Breakfast

7:30 p.m. Dinner:

DAY THREE - RELAXING

9:00 a.m.
Breakfast in Florence:

10:00 a.m.
Check out downtown Florence (Antiquing Capitol of Colorado). It's loaded with shops, art galleries & the Price Pioneer Heritage Museum.

12:30 a.m. Lunch:
We recommend: Mountain View Diner.

1:30 p.m.
Buckskin Joe Frontier Town & Railway.

4:00 p.m.
Visit the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. Or ~ Take a walk along the River Walk in Cañon City.

6:00 p.m.
Check into Hotel, Campground or Bed & Breakfast

6:30 p.m. Dinner:
We recommend: A Gourmet meal on the Royal Gorge Route's Dinner Train; Departs at 7:00 p.m. May 26th - Labor Day.

DAY FOUR - MILD ADVENTURE

8:00 a.m. Breakfast

9:00 a.m
Ride the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. First daily departure is 9:30a.m. from May 26th - Oct. 7

12:00 a.m Lunch:
Stop by Subway, grab some sandwiches & head West on Hwy 50 through Big Horn Canyon. There are lots of areas to picnic along the Arkansas River.

2:30 p.m.
Take a ride on an ATV in the heart of Big Horn Canyon. Bring your own ATV or rent one. Best ATV trails & rentals are located at Hwy 50 & Hwy 96 (page 34).Or ~ Grab your fly rod or book a guided trout-fishing trip down the Arkansas. Or ~ Take a ride on a horse at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with Cottonwood Stables.

4:30 p.m.
Take a scenic drive or Go For a hike.

6:30 p.m.
Check into Hotel, Campground or Bed & Breakfast

7:00 p.m. Dinner:
Re-visit your favorite restaurant.

Evening:
Family: Check out the River Walk in Pueblo, rent a paddleboat.
Adult: Visit the Cripple Creek Casinos
