What's up for Lionshead in 2009

South of the Border - Saturday, June 20th; 11am-4pm

A first year event for the VCBa, the south of the Border Fiesta brings the fun and sun of Mexico to the heart of Lionshead in Vail. Listen to live mariachi's playing traditional Mexican music while enjoying a cold margarita and some great food from Vail's world class restaurants. The South of the Border Fiesta is a great family event. There will be rides and games for the children, free face painting, arts & crafts, piñatas and sombreros. Live entertainment, a beer tent, food tastings, a chili cook off, and of course great Mexican food will also be provided.


Vail Jazz Festival

The Vail Jazz Festival celebrates jazz all summer, entertaining locals and visitors with the music of jazz artists, free performances on Sundays at the Vail Farmers' Market and Thursdays at Vail Square. It's all topped off with the Vail Jazz Party: 24 hours of jazz from September 3 - 7, 2009.

Lionshead Family Friday Afternoon Club (FFAC) - Fridays, July 3rd - August 8th Afternoon/Early Evening (5-8pm)

Lionshead Village will be filled with a variety of activities guaranteed to entertain kids of all ages, ranging from a children's craft center and story telling performances to a gigantic obstacle course and mechanical bull rides. Set at the base of the Gondola in Lionshead Village, the Lionshead Family Friday Afternoon Club (FFAC) melds perfectly with the Vail Mountain FAC at Adventure Ridge. Vail Valley guests and locals alike can enjoy performances by a variety of the Valley's best local performers as they soak in the incredible atmosphere and stunning views provided by the top of the mountain event and then return to a bevy of family focused activities at the base of the mountain. The two FAC events combine to create an incredible evening out for the entire family - making Lionshead the only place to be on Friday nights this summer!

LionsheadVail Antique Festival - August 21-23, 2009, Friday 2pm to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm, & Sunday 10am to 5pm.

Combining Vail's setting with some of the country's finest antique merchandise, makes for a festival unlike any other. Dealers from New Jersey to Oregon have been featured in Architectural Digest, Maine Antique Digest, Country Living, Ski Magazine, Country Home Magazine, and Mountain Living, to name a few.

Oktoberfest - September 11-13, 2009; Lionshead / September 18-20, 2009; Vail Village

Get Ready to Oom-Pah Vail Style! It's time to dust off the Lederhosen, throw on the Dirndls and toast your steins to the most popular party in the world! Oktoberfest… the yearly festival of beer, music and Fall.

The Town of Vail is hosting two full weekends, that's six days of oom-pah parties, lively activities and traditional German fare in both Lionshead & Vail Village. Your favorite Bavarian tunes will be ever present along with popular favorites like the bratwurst-eating and keg bowling contests, yodeling and alpenhorn blowing, all part of the six days of blown out Bavarian fun!

Colorado GrandColorado Grand - Saturday-Sunday September 26th-27th

Lionshead will roar like never before as the eighty- five Colorado Grand participants culminate their week-long journey through the state of Colorado with a victory lap through the Lionshead Village!

The Colorado Grand is a 1,000-mile car rally that travels the Colorado high country in September of each year. The event, which begins and ends in Vail, Colorado, is a charitable event that has donated in excess of 2.5 million dollars to worthy organizations throughout Colorado since it began in 1989, including providing college scholarships to students in many of the communities through which it passes each year.

Over 85 vintage and historic racing and sports cars- the likes of pre-World War II Bugattis, Ferraris and Jaguars-will arrive in Vail on Monday, September 14. Their drivers, coming from all over the United States, Europe, and South America will register for the event and spend the night. Driving will begin Tuesday morning when participants depart Vail on their fourday driving odyssey.
