Do I need to book in advance?

During our summer months, we recommend reservations for our lounge car seating due to limited availability. However, our coach seating can be bought on the day of the ride approximately 30 minutes before we depart. During September, November, and December, we strongly recommend reservations. Leaf peeping season, and our Holiday Express rides are our most popular, so make sure to book early to get the date and time you want. We also recommend reservations for our special rides, like our Wildflower Tours and Devil’s Tail BBQ Specials.

Are the train cars open or enclosed?

Both! We have classic enclosed coaches as well as open-air cars that are perfect for soaking in the mountain breeze and snapping those Instagram-worthy photos.

Our coach cars are all first-come, first-served, with full open-air cars and cars with shade. Our lounge car seats are booth seats and are reserved. These seats are in a fully enclosed car. The lounge car seating is the only ticketed option for our Winter and Holiday rides. However, we do have open-air cars that you can venture out in for snowy photo opportunities.

How long is the train ride?

The round-trip ride during the summer and fall seasons is 2.5 hours long—just the right amount of time for families to enjoy without little ones getting too restless. It’s also the perfect length for an afternoon adventure before grabbing dinner in town.

During the Holiday Express and Winter Express train rides, the trips last 2 hours. These beautiful winter trips will take you into the peaceful Colorado snow-covered scenery, making you feel as though you’re traveling through a snow globe.
