Colorado Museums
With a history as intricately woven as Colorado’s, it’s only natural we would have scores of museums around the state. And it’s only natural we’d have Natural History Museums as well.
Devoting an entire day to one or two museums is a great family outing, and there are a full range of exhibits that appeal to every age group and interest. Top of the list is the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, located adjacent to City Park and the Denver Zoo. The multi-leveled, multi-exhibit facility is a favorite of school kids who often come on special field trips. Touring exhibits have included Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs and Body Worlds. Permanent exhibits include North American Indian Cultures, Wildlife dioramas, Space Odyssey, Gems and Minerals and more. Gates Planetarium and Phipps IMAX Theater are part of the complex.
Other great museums are the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, the Prison Museum in Cañon City, Denver Art Museum and the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden.
