About Barr Lake Park
Birds. Barr Lake is a mecca for birdwatchers throughout the West. 371 species of birds have been sighted here, with records dating back to the 1880s. Watch bird banding at the migration-season banding station. Start your visit by stopping at the nature center and talking with a naturalist. Circling the lake on the level 8.8-mile, multi-use trail, much of it through a designated wildlife refuge, is a good way to see the park by foot, bicycle, or horseback. Check out the wildlife-viewing stations and watch for birds, deer, coyotes, and other wildlife on water and land. This 1,900-acre prairie reservoir on the northeast side of Denver is nice for family fishing adventures or a weekend picnic spot. In the lake, anglers can catch channel catfish, small and largemouth bass, rainbow trout, walleye, bluegill, wiper, and tiger muskie. Motorboats are limited to 10 horsepower, which keeps the lake calm and enjoyable for kayakers and canoeists. The archery range is free with a park entrance pass and features 12 lanes from 10–60 yards. — Back to All State Parks.
