DENVER, Colo. — After more than three decades of making music together, Denver instrumental duo Perpetual Motion returns with Go With The Flow, its eighth studio album. Shaped by seven years of performing, teaching, collaborating, traveling, and life’s unexpected turns, the album reflects a musical journey that embraces change rather than resists it.
The duo will celebrate the release with a free pre-release concert on Saturday, August 15, at Vine Street Pub, 1700 Vine Street in Denver. Music begins at 8 p.m.
Violinist Josie Quick and guitarist Tom Carleno have spent more than 30 years creating original instrumental music that blends jazz, folk, world music, and contemporary acoustic influences. During the seven years since their last studio release, they continued performing throughout Colorado, recording with other artists, and allowing these new compositions to evolve naturally. Their recordings have earned honors from the Peace Song Awards, Zone Music Reporter, One World Music Awards, Unisong International Song Contest, and SongDoor International Songwriting Competition.
Go With The Flow features eleven original compositions and two imaginative cover arrangements inspired by travel, loss, injury, healing, friendship, and joy. Rather than following a single musical style, the album embraces change, weaving together diverse influences into a sound that is unmistakably Perpetual Motion.
The title track grew from an infectious groove and shifting time signatures that became a reminder to embrace life’s unexpected turns. Another composition, “Water, Light, and Love,” reflects on the simple elements that sustain life and our connection to the natural world.
The album also celebrates Colorado’s vibrant music community, featuring percussionist Christian Teele, cellist Hannah Alkire of Acoustic Eidolon, bassist Blake Eberhard, and cellist David Short.
“These songs weren’t written to fit into a genre,” says Quick. “They grew alongside everything else we were doing—performing, collaborating, teaching, traveling, and living life. There were challenges, unexpected detours, and moments of gratitude. Go With The Flow became the perfect title because that’s exactly what we do.”
Go With The Flow will be released September 4, exclusively on Bandcamp, where listeners can purchase the album directly from the artists.
