Rosemaling: Norwegian Folk Art Painting Workshop
February 8 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Step into a world of color, history, and Norwegian pride! This immersive workshop takes you on a journey through Norway’s enchanting art of rosemaling, or “rose painting.” We’ll begin by exploring the origins of this intricate folk art, unraveling the story of how Norwegians brought their beautiful traditions to America in the 1800s and 1900s, weaving them into the fabric of American culture for generations.
With over a dozen unique rosemaling styles across Norway, you’ll discover the diversity in each brushstroke and flourish. Watch demonstrations and learn key techniques as we delve into classic styles like Telemark, Hallingdal, and more! Then, roll up your sleeves and bring a piece of Norway to life as you create your very own rosemaling masterpiece. Whether you’re Norwegian at heart or simply curious about this vibrant art form, join us for a day of culture, creativity, and connection to heritage!
All supplies are included. Registration deadline is Thursday, February 6th, 2025, at 5:00 PM. Space is limited, so purchase your tickets now!

Instructor Info:
Louise Bath first took rosemaling classes in Denver over 30 years ago, but it was her first class at Vesterheim in 2005 that started her on the journey to a Vesterheim Gold Medal, which she was awarded in 2017. She has been teaching rosemaling at the Trollheim Sons of Norway Lodge, in Lakewood, Colorado, since 2012 and for Vesterheim since 2017. Three trips to Norway (2013, 2016 and 2018) have given her a wealth of rosemaling knowledge and ideas. Completing a certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration from the Denver Botanic Gardens in 2017 has added to her knowledge of technique and composition. She strives to give her rosemaling students not only a grounding in painting techniques, but also a review of the history and examples of the regional style.
