The University of Notre Dame Men’s Glee Club will appear at Boulder United Methodist Church, 1421 Spruce St. on Thursday, March 14 at 7:30 PM as part of their Spring 2024 Front Range Tour. The concert is free and open to the public; an offering will be taken.
The Glee Club is approaching its 110th anniversary as a campus ensemble. The wide-ranging program will include sacred and secular classical music from the 16th to the 21st centuries by Victoria, Tallis, and others, along with folk songs, arrangements in a variety of American popular styles from jazz to barbershop, Irish music to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, and songs of Notre Dame. In a salute to Earth Day in April, the Global Adventures club at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures is hosting an open house meet-and-greet highlighting ecotourism from 11 am to 5 pm Saturday, April 20, in the Museum’s program room. As defined by The International Ecotourism Society, ecotourism is responsible travel that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education. Museum members and students from Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University will be available to discuss ecotourism, and handouts and videos will supplement the conversation. The Global Adventures gatherings are designed for those who love to travel, want to recount their travel experiences, delight in sharing stories of travel, and/or dream of traveling one day. Admission to the ecotourism event in the Museum’s program room is free, and refreshments will be served. Museum admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, $1 for ages 4-12, and free for ages three and under. The Rocky Mountain Chamber Singers’ concert theme this season “In Its Many Colors” is a celebration of the wonderful diversity of a capella choral music. Works performed will explore the colors of music in all its glorious variety: style, pitch, rhythm, meter, text, non-text, and will also include paying homage to poets and composers of color who are very often overlooked in music history. All in all, it will be a concert packed with works spanning the entire color spectrum: A true aural rainbow for every music lover!
In celebration of company’s 15th Anniversary Season, entitled Invocation, Denver’s nationally acclaimed Zikr Dance Ensemble is excited to showcase some of the company’s signature works and audience favorites.“Runes”, called a masterpiece by critics, explores the ancient runic alphabets native to norther European peoples, specifically through the use of runes as a form of divination.“Parallel & Elevated” – a beautiful, acrobatic and atmospheric interaction between two beings, one on the physical plane and the other in a different dimension.“In Your Eyes” is the company’s signature work. Set to the famous music of Peter Gabriel of the same name, “In Your Eyes” will leave audiences breathless, exhilarated and uplifted!The program will also include “Ripples In The Sand”, Artistic Director David Taylor’s most recent stunning creation, set to the mesmerizing music of Hans Zimmer.

Denver-based Milquetoast & Co.’s sound has drawn inspiration from Morphine, Lord Huron, Jeff Buckley, Father John Misty, Aldous Harding, Andrew Bird, DeVotchKa, Radiohead, Jacques Dutronc and many others. “It’s unique… haunting, but not depressing, jazz-ish but not chaotic… kind of ethereal but grounded.” The lyrics are abundantly self-aware and ironic without watering down the complexity of the human experience. The band’s eclectic sound is brought to life by James McAndrew’s emotive vocals and wry, witty, sometimes wistful storytelling; co-producer Dan Zangari’s bass lines; Kyle Bocchieri’s drum work; Joe Engel’s cello technique and rich tone, and Ben Parrish’s guitar style.
The seven-time Grammy award-winning Maria Schneider Orchestra has been hailed by critics as “evocative, majestic, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous and beyond categorization.” In 2019, the National Endowment for the Arts named Schneider an NEA Jazz Master. Schneider’s latest album, “Data Lords,” won the Grammy for Large Jazz Ensemble Album in 2021.
The Maria Schneider Orchestra has performed at festivals and concert halls worldwide. She has received numerous commissions and guest conducting invites, working with over 90 groups in over 30 countries. Her music blurs the lines between genres, making her long list of commissioners quite varied, stretching from Jazz at Lincoln Center, to The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, to collaborating with David Bowie. She is among a small few to have received Grammy’s in multiple genres, having received the award in both jazz and classical categories, as well as for her work with David Bowie.
She and her orchestra have a distinguished recording career with 14 Grammy nominations and 7 Grammy awards. Unique funding of projects has become a hallmark through the trendsetting company, ArtistShare. Her album, “Concert in the Garden” (2004) became historic as the first recording to win a Grammy with internet-only sales; even more significantly, it blazed the crowdfunding trail as ArtistShare’s first release. It was also selected to be in the Library of Congress’s very select National Recording Registry. Schneider and her orchestra have received many honors by the Jazz Journalists Association, Downbeat and JazzTimes Critics and Readers Polls. In 2012, the University of Minnesota, Schneider’s alma mater, presented her with an honorary doctorate. ASCAP awarded her their esteemed Concert Music Award in 2014.
Celebrating György Ligeti’s centennial, TAKT Trio presents the composer’s Trio for Violin, Horn, and Piano, alongside Brahm’s own Horn Trio as well as a new work by composer Hilda Paredes, reconsidering this medium for the 21st century. Co-presented with Friends of Chamber Music and DU’s Lamont School of Music.

Our season closes with music that has captivated audiences in concert halls, movie theaters, and figure skating arenas for 123 years: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, performed by pianist Zhu Wang and your Fort Collins Symphony. Béla Bartók’s Dance Suite continues the uplifting energy of the evening with a vibrant suite of dances pulsating with rhythm and melody. The concert concludes with the serenity of Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, a tranquil masterpiece that whispers with songs of nature.
