Global Adventures — Chinese New Year

The 2024 Chinese New Year on Saturday, Feb. 10, inaugurates the Year of the Dragon. In commemoration of this date, the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures has arranged a dinner from 5:30-8:30 pm at Hunan Chinese Cuisine, 731 E. Harmony Road in Fort Collins, as part of its Global Adventures club. The evening will include a traditional three-course Chinese New Year’s dinner, non-alcoholic beverages, and dessert. A cash bar will be available. The event will include speakers from China, and participants will share stories of their experiences and travels in China. Reservations are $50/person, and registration is required by Feb. 3 at globalvillagemuseum.org. The Museum’s Global Adventures club is designed for those who love to travel, want to recount their travel experiences, delight in sharing stories of travel, and/or dream of traveling one day. Hosts for the evening are Bonnie Titley, a member of the Museum Board, and Sari Gartner, Luxury Travel Advisor for Outdoor Travel Adventures. Douglas County Fair & Rodeo Parade

Celebrate the Fair Parade in downtown Castle Rock, presented by the Castle Rock Chamber in partnership with the Town of Castle Rock. Parade starts on the south end of Town, and flows down Wilcox to 4th, to Perry, and ends at the Castle Rock Fire Department. This event is free to the public.

Castle Rock Artfest

Delight in the artistic impressions of more than 110 Artists from across the country at this two-day event in Downtown Castle Rock. Castle Rock Artfest is presented by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce. The Castle Rock community is abundant with public art which ignites creativity and inspires conversation. There is an enormous commitment to the arts where residents realize that the arts are important to preserving culture and quality of life. This two day event is held in downtown Castle Rock at Festival Park. Delight in the artistic impressions of more than 110 Artists from across the country. Continual live main stage entertainment, featuring popular musicians, will provide a complimentary backdrop to this year’s program. Admission is free to this 2 day event.

Castle Rock Starlighting

Step into a Norman Rockwell scene at Starlighting, an annual traditional community ceremony that includes lighting the star on top of Castle Rock followed by a fireworks display. Festivities include caroling, dancing, visiting with Santa Claus, kids activities, nonprofit booths, food vendors, hot chocolate, and the iconic chili supper at the Firehouse.

Collections: Unexpected Treasures

Collections: Unexpected Treasures opens Feb. 2 and runs through May 25 at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. The Main Gallery exhibition will showcase a variety of unusual collections, including combs, rocks, thimbles, Cooper’s tools, scrap metal transformed into artwork, stone axes, arrowheads, local and international masks, barbed wire, music boxes, and African baskets. Pictures of huge trolls, designed by Thomas Dumbo from discarded wood, will highlight what can be created from collected old pallets. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, $1 for ages 4-15, and free for children 3 and under. Ghostbusters Fill The Ecto Toy Drive & Nintendo Switch Giveaway

St. Nix is partnering with the High Plains Ghostbusters, Northern Colorado Ghostbusters & Fort Collins Ghostbusters to put on a Fill The Ecto Toy Drive event on Dec 16th From 10am – 2pm. St. Nix will also be doing 20% off their whole store and giving raffle tickets for a Nintendo Switch Light for anyone who purchases or brings a toy to donate at the store from 10am-7pm. This event will benefit Kenzi’s Causes which brings toys to Colorado kids who otherwise may not get anything for Christmas. Bring out a packaged unwrapped toy or purchase one to donate, get your picture with a Ghostbuster & Ghostbuster Santa and get entered into multiple giveaways going on. This Fill The Ecto Toy Drive Happening At St. Nix will only be one day Dec 16th. Dont miss it. (only one raffle ticket per person age 18 or older, Fill the Ecto event is from 10am – 2pm but you have until 7pm on the 16th to either purchase or bring a toy to donate to St. Nix for a ticket into the Nintendo Switch raffle)

2024 Denver Preschool Showcase

The 9th annual Denver Preschool Showcase is a free, one-stop opportunity for Denver families to connect with numerous quality-rated programs throughout the city and learn about early childhood resources, including tuition support through the Denver Preschool Program. The indoor event will feature free food, family-friendly activities, photo ops with a famous Minion and admission to the Denver Zoo.

Nepal and Himalayan Adventures

Kumar Karakheti, a Fort Collins resident and native of Nepal, will present Nepal and Himalayan Adventures at 6 pm Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. The presentation is part of the Museum’s Global Adventures gatherings. Karakheti, who has trekked 65 times to Everest Base Camp, is the owner and lead guide for Journeys, LLC, a company that specializes in custom expeditions in the Himalayas. The Museum’s gift shop will also have items for purchase from Nepal, including blankets made from the wool of yaks, woolen hats and gloves, scarves, and singing bowls. Reservations are $10/person, and registration is requested at globalvillagemuseum.org. Wine and refreshments will be served, and there will be time for socializing and meeting other travelers.
