SUMMARY:Blind Pilot + John Craigie
DESCRIPTION:Recommended if you like: The Head and the Heart\, Gregory Alan Isakov\, The Tallest Man on Earth\, Langhorne Slim\, Fruit Bats\, Shakey Graves\, Josh Ritter\, Watchhouse \nThe first Blind Pilot album in eight years\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain emerged from a period of artistic crisis and the radical transformation of their creative ecosystem. “I went through a few years where I wasn’t able to write—I tried therapy\, I read books on writer’s block\, I went on writing trips\, but nothing was helping\,” says Israel Nebeker\, frontman for the Oregon-bred band. After stepping back and reimagining his songwriting approach\, Nebeker challenged himself to write an entire album in a month\, then brought those songs to his bandmates with a newfound sense of receptivity. “I told myself that whatever songs came through in that month would be for the love of the band and music we make together\,” says Nebeker. “Instead of being controlling in the studio\, I wanted to let the songs live and breathe with the band as an entity. By the time we finished\, it was the most joy we’d ever had in making an album together.” \nProduced by Josh Kaufman (The Hold Steady\, David Wax Museum)\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain brings a potent new energy to the elegantly composed folk/indie-rock of past LPs like 2016’s And Then Like Lions. In a profound step forward for the band—whose lineup also includes drummer/co-founder Ryan Dobrowski\, bassist Luke Ydstie\, and multi-instrumentalist Kati Claborn—Blind Pilot’s fourth full-length unfolds with an exquisite fluidity\, fully harnessing the undeniable chemistry. “In the past we’ve always been very serious and intentional about the process\, but Josh often encouraged us to throw away our preconceived notions of what the songs were supposed to be\,” says Nebeker. “So much of the album came from all of us playing live together\, listening to each other and trusting our instincts\, and really getting to the core of the song\,” Dobrowski adds. The result: the most revelatory expression yet of Blind Pilot’s palpable reverence for music as a connective force. \nWhile Blind Pilot intends to tour principally as a quartet in support of the record\, the album includes contributions from longtime trumpeter/keyboardist Dave Jorgensen and vibraphonist Ian Krist. In bringing the album to life\, the band worked with a rich palette of instrumentation\, handling each track with equal parts extraordinary care and unbridled spontaneity. For both Dobrowski and Nebeker—who formed an early iteration of the band as college students in the mid-aughts—those moments of ineffably closeness serve as the lifeblood of Blind Pilot. “For me making this album felt like celebrating being together and still feeling that deep connection that’s been a throughline for our entire adult lives\,” Dobrowski says. “One of my very favorite things about music is the way it not only connects us as bandmates\, but allows us to connect to an audience—and then within that audience\, people end up connecting with each other. It’s this powerful thing that’s unlike anything else\, and in a way it’s kind of like magic.” \n  \nFor over a decade\, John Craigie has made music that brings people in\, not with spectacle but with sincerity and songs that feel like conversations. \nHis new album I Swam Here\, out February 6\, 2026 on Zabriskie Point Records\, was written and produced by Craigie and recorded between New Orleans and Astoria. Seven tracks were cut at Deslonde St Studios with musicians handpicked by Sam Doores of The Deslondes\, including Howe Pearson\, Max Bien Khan\, Jonny Campos\, and a guest appearance from Desiree Cannon. Longtime collaborator Anna Moss appears across much of the record. The remaining tracks were finished at the Rope Room in Astoria\, carrying over the same spirit and palette. The cover art\, painted by Brittany Schall\, nods to the design of mid century samba and jazz records. \nThe album’s singles trace the path of its making. “Fire Season\,” engineered by Bart Budwig\, was one of the first songs written and features Cooper Trail\, Nevada Sowle\, Luke Ydstie\, and Jamie Greenan. “Dry Land” was reworked in Astoria after early New Orleans sessions didn’t feel right. “Edna Strange\,” inspired by Marty Robbins\, is the only track where Craigie plays steel string acoustic\, with Max Bien Khan on nylon string leads and a trio vocal arrangement in place of Moss’s harmonies. \nFollowing 2024’s Pagan Church with TK & The Holy Know-Nothings\, which spent six weeks at #1 on the Americana Albums chart\, I Swam Here feels both expansive and intimate\, shaped by the musical history of the Gulf Coast and the stillness of the Pacific Northwest. \nCraigie remains a tireless live performer\, touring throughout the U.S.\, Europe\, and Australia\, appearing at festivals like Newport Folk\, Pickathon\, Edmonton Folk Festival\, and High Sierra\, and sharing the stage with artists such as Langhorne Slim\, Sierra Hull\, Gregory Alan Isakov\, Brett Dennen\, and Jack Johnson. His annual #KeepItWarm Tour donates $1 from every ticket sold to regional nonprofits\, and his John Craigie On The River trips on the Tuolumne and Rogue rivers have become cherished gatherings for fans. \nI Swam Here is a grounded\, collaborative step forward\, blending New Orleans grit with Pacific Northwest quiet\, and showing a songwriter still widening the world of his music. \n

SUMMARY:The Crane Wives with special guest Yasmin Williams
DESCRIPTION:Recommended if you like: The Oh Hellos\, Joseph\, Florence and the Machine\, The Lumineers\, The Head and the Heart\, The National\, Mumford & Suns \nBorn of the 2010’s folk boom and now comfortably stationed in their rock and roll era\, The Crane Wives epitomize the evolving landscape of indie folk. Their high-energy performances have been described as “charged with emotion and technical skill” (Blurred Culture LA)\, while their harmony-dense melodies support deeply resonant lyrics\, exploring the vulnerable and the ugly sides of the human condition. The band has amassed over 1.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify\, racking up over 150 million streams on their most popular songs and accumulating listenership from far-flung corners of the US to the UK\, Australia\, Germany\, Brazil\, Poland\, Mexico\, and the Philippines. \nFeatured by Michigan Radio and NPR’s “All Songs Considered\, ”the band recently released their sixth full-length studio record\, Beyond Beyond Beyond\, to high praise\, with Glasse Factory calling the album “a testament to the band’s ability to turn personal struggles into universally relatable anthems.” Niner Times describes the new release as “angsty\, haunting and gritty\, ”praising its departure from the more traditional folk sound of the Crane Wives’ previous records. Since its release in Sept 2024\, Beyond Beyond Beyond has accrued over 24 million streams on Spotify. \nThe pulse of the Crane Wives is delivered by Ben Zito (bass) and Dan Rickabus (drums)\, creating a driving\, dynamic backdrop while co-leads Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury establish expansive and gritty conversations between their electric guitars. A web of three-part harmony helps to soften the blow of their emotional candor\, like a 21st century Cerberus\, the hound of Hades reimagined as an emotional\nsupport animal. \nThe Crane Wives have 6 full-length albums under their belts and have performed over 600 shows across the US\, sharing stages with acts such as The Avett Brothers\, Lake Street Dive\, Rusted Root\, The Dead South\, Joseph\, and many more.

And so he has: across the past half century Robert Cray’s developed into one of  American music’s most singular artists. \n“I guess you’d have to say that we were lucky\,” reflects Cray on his life in music\, “because\, growing  up in the 1960s\, the different music played on the radio really opened us up. I mean\, we even had  Albert Collins play our high School graduation party.” \nFrom forming a teenage garage band\, through to striding the stage alongside several of the world’s  greatest guitarists\, Robert Cray’s story is one of struggle and commitment. Struggle and  commitment that led to Cray enjoying phenomenal success – selling millions of albums and  countless concert tickets\, winning five Grammy Awards\, being inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame\,  recipient of the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award\, designing two signature model Fender guitars – yet for Robert what’s always mattered most is the music. Every note he plays  counts\, every song he sings is delivered as if it is his last: integrity and intensity are what has guided  Cray’s musical career. He has never cheapened his output or delivered a substandard performance. Indeed\, his commitment to making music of the highest standard has won Cray both a loyal  audience and the respect of many of popular music’s most legendary figures. \nThink about it: Robert Cray has shared stage and/or studio with the likes of John Lee Hooker\,  Muddy Waters\, B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Chuck Berry\, Albert Collins\, The Rolling Stones\, Eric  Clapton\, Tina Turner\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, the Memphis Horns and Hi Rhythm Section. Cray’s  stinging guitar playing and soulful voice\, his skills as a band leader and performer\, mark him as  keeper of the flame for American roots music\, an artist who never fails to deliver. \n“We were so lucky just be able to see them\,” says Cray of trading guitar licks on stage with legends  of blues\, rock and soul\, “let alone share the stage with them – what an experience!” \nCray’s rise to the top was\, like his music\, a slow burn\, he first building a following in small towns  across the Pacific Northwest. Even before Cray had a record deal he enjoyed local hero status – so  much so in 1978 he was cast (as a musician) in Animal House\, the blockbuster comedy that made  John Belushi famous. 1978 was also the year Cray recorded his debut album\, Who’s Been Talkin’\,  although Tomato Records’ internal problems held up Talkin’s release until 1980. And then\, just as Talkin’ was winning great reviews\, Tomato collapsed into bankruptcy. Got the blues? Young Robert  certainly could have claimed he had them. But Cray isn’t given to complaining\, instead he  persevered\, committed then\, as he is now\, to taking his music to the people. \nAfter Tomato\, Cray and his band – today consisting of Richard Cousins (bass guitar – there since  high school days)\, Dover Weinberg (keyboards) and Les Falconer (drums) – used the momentum  the album gave them to play further afield. By now Cray was buddies with a young guitarist from  Texas: Stevie Ray Vaughan. \n“We played in 1979 at the San Francisco Blues Festival\,” recalls Cray\, “and I watched Stevie’s  show and he’s just smoking. Afterwards Richard and I went up and chatted with him and we just hit  it off. Stevie was great – if we were in Austin he’d always come and join us on stage.” \nSigning to Hightone\, Cray’s 1983 album Bad Influence established him internationally: he was  invited to play Carnegie Hall\, toured Europe\, later finding Eric Clapton recording Bad Influence’s title track. 1985 saw Cray’s False Accusations album increase his standing as the foremost singer of  blues noir songs\, while that year’s Showdown! – a sizzling collaboration with guitarists’ Albert  Collins and Johnny Copeland – won Robert huge acclaim from blues musicians and fans: the new  guy’s the real deal! Signing to Mercury Records\, Cray’s 1986 album Strong Persuader ensured he  became the first blues/soul musician to breakthrough in the MTV era. \nStrong Persuader won Cray rave reviews from pop and rock critics\, topped charts worldwide\, saw  Cray grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and winning the Grammy for Best Contemporary  Blues Recording in 1988. Strong Persuader\, with its songs of infidelity\, guilt and unease\, while not  in any sense conventional Top 40 music\, proved so strong an album it broke through barriers\, sold  millions of copies and would prove extremely influential (2026 being the 40th anniversary.) Cray’s breakthrough allowed both young and older blues and soul musicians to gain wide attention and  radio play: John Lee Hooker’s career resurrection came soon after with The Healer\, and Robert  plays on that seminal album. \n“It was great to be able to travel around the world\,” says Cray of Strong Persuader’s success. “It  afforded us a lot of great opportunities that we were lucky to experience.” \nCray’s being modest here: suddenly he found himself the hottest guitarist working – Tina Turner  invited Robert to support her huge European tour (every night\, after playing with his band\, Cray  would join Tina on stage to play A Change Is Gonna Come)\, then Keith Richards called\, requesting  Cray join the band backing Chuck Berry for Taylor Hackford’s celebratory feature length  documentary Hail Hail Rock ‘N’ Roll. Here Cray not only got to play with the mercurial Berry  (+Linda Ronstadt and Etta James\, amongst many notable artists)\, he also formed a friendship with Steve Jordan\, then drummer for the project and Richards’ solo band. \nNow internationally famous\, Cray found himself in intense demand: he toured with The Stones and  played with B.B King\, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. Headlining in noted music festivals – these  included Glastonbury in the UK and Crossroads Guitar Festival in the US – and kept developing his  sound over a selection of strong albums across the 1990s. Cray’s songwriting has addressed ageing\,  love\, loneliness\, domestic turmoil and US politics. \nAs an artist Robert Cray’s aged like fine wine – his voice has developed a greater range and  expressiveness\, this he’s put to use on masterful interpretations of such Southern soul standards as I  Forgot To Be Your Lover (William Bell)\, Your Good Thing Is About To End (Mable John) and  Nobody’s Fault But Mine (Otis Redding). At the same time\, Cray’s guitar playing now possesses an  additional depth\, a growl that can hint at a caress then signal emotional upheaval. \nHis recent run of albums – 2014’s In My Soul\, 2017’s Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm and 2020’s  masterful That’s What I Heard (all produced by Steve Jordan: now the Stones’ drummer) – are  amongst the very finest he’s made. Every song here is deeply felt\, whether an agonised song of loss\,  an angry protest number\, or a dance tune that gets audiences pumping (My Baby Likes To Boogaloo  is great funky fun). \nAcross five decades Robert Cray has created a richly inclusive American music\, revitalising both  blues and soul while rocking hard with the very best. To achieve 50 years in the music industry and  still be as fresh and committed as when starting out is an achievement few can boast of but Cray  can: he has released 19 studio albums\, every one replete with his extremely distinctive songs\, won  five Grammy Awards and continues to make music that sounds like no one but Robert Cray. “All  these years we have been fortunate to do what we love doing\, playing the music we love playing\,”  says Cray with a smile. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Although going through numerous lead singers and musicians they have remained to be one of the most recognized and prolific reggae band for over 50 years. \nThe roots of BLACK UHURU were formed in Kingston Jamaica’s Waterhouse district also known as “Firehouse” in the early 60′s. Though considered to be one of Jamaica’s toughest neighborhoods it’s home to several other reggae singers and musicians. It was where Duckie Simpson grew up and learned to sing from boyhood friends Winston “Pipe” Matthews and Lloyd “Bread” McDonald of Wailing Souls and Bob Marley. He recorded four tracks with Wailing Souls before forming his own group. \nThe original Uhuru’s (Swahili for freedom) were Derrick “Duckie” Simpson\, Euvin “Don Carlos” Spencer and Rudolph “Garth” Dennis. They only recorded a few singles “Folk Songs” “Time Is On Our Side” and “Slow Coach” before separating. Don went solo and Garth joined Wailing Souls. \nDuckie reformed the group adding Michael Rose & Errol “Tarzan” Nelson\, both from Waterhouse. They recorded their debut album “Love Crises” in 1977 at Prince Jammy’s famous studio in Waterhouse on St. Lucia Road. It was later re-released as “Black Sounds Of Freedom”. Errol later left to join The Jayes. He was soon replaced by American female singer & dancer Sandra “Puma” Jones. They teamed up with drummer Sly Dunbar and bass player Robbie Shakespeare. Together they developed a musical style full of deep bass thumps\, loud drum slaps\, sharp keyboards\, long instrumentals with guitar riffs\, whirly back round noises\, echos and the signature”woh oh oh’s” creating they’re “classic” sound. Producing hits like “I Love King Sellassie\, “‘Shine Eye Gals”\, “General Penitentary” and “What is Life”. \nBLACK UHURU released the albums Red\, Chill Out\, Sensemila and Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner and began to tour the world bringing them to international audiences. It was during this period they started to gain rapid popularity. They opened live shows for the Rolling Stones and the Police. They began to work with other well accomplished producers and musicians. Keith Richards played guitar for the “Shine Eye Gal” track. Dennis Brown “The Crown Prince of Reggae” produced the tracks “Rent Man” and Wood For My Fire”. The track” Spongi Reggae” appeared on an episode of The Bill Cosby Show and “Party in Session” in the movie 1980′s North Shore. BLACK UHURU made reggae history when they won the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music in 1984 for the album Anthem Shortly after the grammy Michael Rose went solo. \nAnother Waterhouse resident named Delroy “Junior” Reid became the new lead singer. They released two albums Brutal and Positive. The Brutal album was nominated for a grammy. They filmed three music videos for the tracks “Fire City” “Brutal”\, and “Great Train Robbery”\, that track also played on a popular video game Grand Theft Auto. Sadly in 1990\, due to ill health\, Sanda “Puma” Jones passed away of cancer. Junior Reid shortly went solo. \nThen the original three re-united. They released four albums Now\, Iron Storm\, Mystical Truth and Strong. Each album was nominated for grammy. They made an award winning music video for the track “Tip Of The Iceberg” featuring rap star Ice-T in 1992. Eventually splitting up again. Carlos & Dennis left again & Duckie stayed again. This time there was a lawsuit brought amongst the group over the band’s legal rights in Los Angeles county court. Derrick Simpson won. \nAs the new millennium approached there came a new lead singer yet again from Waterhouse named Andrew “Bee’s” Beckford. They released two albums. Unification was produced by King Jammy & Dynasty was produced by Fitzroy Francis & Duckie. They went on a worldwide tour featuring Sly and Robbie and had the famous producer Scientist as its road engineer. Andrew Bee’s then went solo. \nIn 2007 Duckie & Michael Rose reunited after twenty years. They performed in Jamaica and did one international tour and released the single “Dollars”. In 2011 Duckie reunited with Andrew Bee’s after ten years. He added female backing vocalist Kaye Star and began touring again performing in South America & America. \nBLACK UHURU recently performed in a Broadway Musical. The red carpeted event “Loving the Silent Tears: A New Musical” premiered October 27th 2012 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles Ca. They were invited to represent reggae music and performed a new track “Make A Deal”. And in Las Vegas Nevada BLACK UHURU was recently honored for its contribution to the entertainment industry. August 31st if now officially “Black Uhuru Day” in the city of Las Vegas. \nBLACK UHURU’s long success has allowed them to become ambassadors of reggae while earning several achievements in the music industry. With 14 full length albums\, 7 instrumental dub albums\, and 4 live albums they have the highest record sales in reggae music behind Bob Marley. The album Red was voted #23 for Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Albums of the 1980′s. Aside from winning the first reggae grammy they have been nominated 5 more times. They are the only reggae group to have won the Diamond Awards of Excellence in 1994. \nDespite all of BLACK UHURU’s change of different singers and musicians the one thing that has always remained is Derrick “Duckie” Simpson. Much respect to a legendary figure for Reggae Music. In 2018\, Black Uhuru released “As The World Turns” featuring Duckie on lead. In December 2018 “As The World Turns” was nominated for the 61ST Annual Grammy Awards. \nIn 2020 as the world shut down with the Covid Pandemic\, Black Uhuru steadfastly worked on a brand new album titled “New Day” to be released on LAW Records on Sat May 14\, 2022.
