SUMMARY:Colorado Jazz in concert with Veronica Swift
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra in concert with Veronica Swift\nSaturday\, July 18 at 7:30 pm \nThe Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra big band welcomes international recording artist Veronica Swift to the Arvada Center Amphitheatre. One of the most compelling voices in jazz today\, Swift brings a dynamic style that moves across genres while staying rooted in tradition. “We’re incredibly excited to present our first concert with Veronica Swift\,” said CJRO Artistic Director Drew Zaremba. “She is not only an impeccable vocalist\, but she also shares our commitment to exploring jazz alongside America’s rich musical heritage. We’re cooking up some special arrangements to premiere at this concert\, and we can’t wait to see you there!” \nVeronica Swift has established herself as one of her generation’s defining voices in jazz. As a child\, she toured nationally with her parents—jazz musicians Hod O’Brien and Stephanie Nakasian—appearing at leading clubs and festivals including Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Jazz Standard (NYC)\, Jazz Showcase (Chicago)\, and the Telluride Jazz Festival. She recorded her first album at age nine and has since built a career spanning two decades. \nHer credits include a second-place finish in the 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition\, a twice-yearly residency at Birdland Jazz Club\, touring with Chris Botti and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, and recording with Jeff Goldblum. Her 2021 album This Bitter Earth earned a five-star review and the cover of DownBeat\, and in 2024\, she was named a Chevalier in France’s Order of Arts and Letters. \nHer 2026 release Home explores themes of loss\, identity\, and belonging through a wide-ranging repertoire\, offering a personal and expansive view of what “home” can mean. \n“She has a miraculous voice\, musical ability and technique\, as well as an innate gift for entertaining a crowd.” — Wall Street Journal \n“Veronica Swift is a woman of many voices\, and she uses every one of them to refract a dizzying kaleidoscope of moods.” — DownBeat \n

SUMMARY:Dogs In A Pile
DESCRIPTION:Something organic has been blooming from Asbury Park\, New Jersey\, and is now making its way around the world. Dogs In A Pile\, a band of five twenty somethings with old souls and limitless chops\, is waking people up to the timeless and ineffable joys of psychedelic-tinged jazz-funk rock n’ roll. \nThis is one of the busiest touring bands of today\, averaging 130 live shows per year since 2022. The road has become their creative engine\, generating a rapidly growing catalog of original tunes. Distroid\, the band’s newest album\, is a 10-song collection featuring long-awaited studio versions of some of the Dogs’ most beloved repertoire. \nDogs In A Pile is guitarist Jimmy Law\, guitarist Brian Murray\,  keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan\, bassist Sam Lucid\, and drummer Joe Babick. In addition\, the Dogs In A Pile community includes the Dog Pound\, the group’s extended family of fans across the country. \nBesides being a lyric from the Grateful Dead song\, “He’s Gone\,” the name “Dogs In A Pile” is an apt description of the five-piece band’s stylistic breadth. The sonic image it conjures is a heap of storyteller Americana\, bluegrass\, jazz improvisation\, eccentric instrumental excursions\, pop-rock sophistication\, and deep-pocket grooves\, ranging from funk to Latin to reggae and beyond. \nDistroid features material that has already become staples of the band’s live show. These studio renditions have afforded the group a chance to present the compositions just how they envision them. Distroid offers a cross-section of the Dogs In A Pile essence\, tight and tuneful four-minute funk and jazz informed psych-rock songs\, and then sprawling 15-minute compositions with intricate unison lines\, agile genre-jumping\, and dazzling improvisation. \nDogs In A Pile\nJuly 25 at 7:30 pm \nOUTDOOR AMPHITHEATRE \nLawn tickets: $37. Tickets under the cover start at $50.

SUMMARY:Toad the Wet Sprocket\, with Augustana
DESCRIPTION:Any music fan who grew up in the ‘90s\, before the rise of streaming platforms\, will tell you that when a record store clerk made a music recommendation\, you took it seriously. Often\, well-studied music nerds\, these unsung tastemakers had their finger on the pulse of lesser-known\, excellent bands. So it speaks volumes that many of Toad the Wet Sprocket’s earliest champions were record store clerks who put the Santa Barbara quartet’s early albums into unsuspecting listeners’ hands\, convincing them to overlook their unusual band name and give them a shot\, perhaps comparing them to R.E.M. \nThese four friends who met in a high school theater group were still just kids when they named themselves after a fictional band from a Monty Python skit and recorded Pale. Unbeknownst to many who thought they were fresh-faced and mild-mannered\, Toad the Wet Sprocket had a grass roots DIY aesthetic\, refusing to be pushed around by their record label and insisting on doing things their own way – an independent spirit they still maintain to this day. \n“We were young\, and it was us against the record company\,” Todd recalls of the band’s early days. “We turned down big amounts of money to sign with Columbia so we could have creative control. But we were always fighting them. They wanted us to appear on Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and lip sync\, but we didn’t want to do that. We had a bit of a punk-rock ethos.” \nWith the release of their timeless Rings: The Acoustic Sessions\, and 2026 being the 40th Anniversary as a band\, Toad will be on the road throughout 2026 and the album\, that was shared with fans gradually over the last year and had a limited edition vinyl package that sold out in 10 minutes. With Rings: The Acoustic Sessions\, Toad delivers more than an ‘unplugged’ greatest hits collection; more than a remastered retrospective glazed over with nostalgia. Rather\, they’ve captured the concentrated power of their best hits and deep cuts as they exist in this moment\, performed by the band as they are today. \nEven with everything that’s changed over the last few decades\, one of the band’s main drivers has remained the same since they first started performing together in high school: bringing people together to experience music as a binding force and to help them feel like they belong. “If you’re feeling isolated and you need to gather yourself back to remember how much you love your life\, music is your friend\,” Glen says. “We want people who come to our shows to feel at home for a while.” \nToad the Wet Sprocket with Augustana \nAugust 11 at 7:30 pm

SUMMARY:Yonder Mountain String Band
DESCRIPTION:Grammy-nominated Yonder Mountain String Band has never chased trends or followed a formula. For 27 years\, they’ve made music on their own terms\, shaping a sound and a legacy driven by instinct\, built on chemistry\, and rooted in something real. Their influence helped steer progressive bluegrass into new territory\, creating space for two of the most visible and enduring sub-genres in American roots music. Within their first few years\, they brought bluegrass to rock stages\, premier festivals\, and mainstream audiences\, expanding the reach of acoustic music in ways that still echo through a new generation of artists. \n2026 marks a significant moment for Yonder\, with two album releases that reflect both where they are now and the moments that shaped them. Early on comes Good As True (2026)\, their twelfth studio album\, recorded live in the studio and filled with all-new original songs that explore communication: the things we say\, the things we mean\, and everything that gets lost in between. The album moves across the range Yonder has always embraced\, from high-energy bluegrass to songs that lean toward folk\, rock\, and indie influences. Later\, they’ll mark the long-awaited 20th anniversary (two years overdue) and first vinyl pressing of Mountain Tracks\, Vol. 3 (2004)\, the third installment in their celebrated live series\, recorded in 2003 at their Kinfolk Celebration at Planet Bluegrass. The reissue captures a defining moment in Yonder’s rise and honors their deep connection to Colorado\, where their journey began and where they’ve since been inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. \nNearly three decades in\, Yonder Mountain continues to unfold in real time on stage\, in song\, and in the shared moments that keep their music alive. \nYonder Mountain String Band\, with the Fretliners\nSaturday\, August 15 at 7:30 pm

SUMMARY:Tower of Power
DESCRIPTION:Tower of Power August 21 at 7:30 pm \nFor 58 years\, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music. “We were a Soul band called The Motowns.” recalls Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player\, I was there\, and my brother was the drummer. I met “Doc” Kupka back in 1968\, and gave him an audition. He came in the band\, and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.” The reason for the band name change was that they had a specific goal in mind.  \nEast Bay Grease defined their sound and landed them with Warner Brothers. Bump City\, their 1972 debut for the label\, was a hit on both the Billboard 200 and the R&B Albums chart\, and netted them the hits “You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down to The Nightclub.” The 70s were a boom period with radio classics like “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?\,” and the band continued to tour and record over the years. Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968. \n50 years later\, in 2018\, they returned to Oakland to celebrate their landmark 50th anniversary. Tower’s window-rattling grooves and raucous party spirit has been a balm for the soul throughout their half-century existence\, but the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater couldn’t have arrived at a better time. \nThe band has long since surpassed Castillo’s modest aspirations\, traveling the world\, enjoying hit singles on their own and backing legendary artists including Otis Redding\, Elton John\, Santana\, the Grateful Dead\, John Lee Hooker\, Aerosmith\, Bonnie Raitt\, and countless others. In the process they’ve defined an “Oakland soul” sound as instantly recognizable as those from Castillo’s hometown\, Detroit\, as well as inspirations like Memphis and Philadelphia.  \nThe future of Tower of Power is set out to be vigorous and dynamic\, and will prove to be just that for fans around the world starved for the band’s groove just the way Tower of Power likes it!

SUMMARY:Preservation Hall Jazz Band
DESCRIPTION:Preservation Hall Jazz Band\nSaturday\, August 29 at 7:30 pm \nAt a moment when musical streams are crossing with unprecedented frequency\, it’s crucial to remember that throughout its history\, New Orleans has been the point at which sounds and cultures from around the world converge\, mingle\, and resurface\, transformed by the Crescent City’s inimitable spirit and joie de vivre. Nowhere is that idea more vividly embodied than in the Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, which has held the torch of New Orleans music aloft for more than 65 years\, all the while carrying it enthusiastically forward as a reminder that the history they were founded to preserve is a vibrantly living history. \nPHJB marches that tradition forward once again on So It Is. The album redefines what New Orleans music means today by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots\, through its common ancestry with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Fire Music of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane\, and forward to cutting-edge artists with whom the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport\, including legends like Stevie Wonder\, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like Beck\, The Foo Fighters\, My Morning Jacket\, and the Black Keys.
